Kurdi Rug Ref 708154
This handmade carpet, woven approximately forty years ago, originates from the Kelayi region and reflects the long-standing traditions of Kurdish weaving. Measuring 198 × 129 centimeters with a total area of 2.56 square meters and an approximate weight of 11 kilograms, it demonstrates a compact and sturdy structure, featuring a wool pile on a cotton warp and weft. The 30-raj knot density ensures coherence and structural integrity. The corner-and-medallion design with a fish (Herati) motif is rendered here in a simplified, local interpretation. At the upper and lower sections of the field, animal figures resembling deer are depicted. The blue ground enhances the vibrancy of the motifs, while the red border, stabilized through chemical dyeing, provides a striking and high-contrast frame. Owing to its unconventional color combination within Kurdish weavings and its strong rural character, this carpet can serve as a distinctive focal element in both minimalist and traditional interiors.
